Tywardreath march

Stephen Gilbert leading residents from Tywardreath on a march to protest at the threatened closure of the village post office

Over 150 people from Tywardreath braved the wet weather on Saturday morning to march in support of the village post office which is threatened with closure.

The march, which was organised by the Liberal Democrats, helped to highlight the time and difficulty residents will face if Tywardreath closes. The march was to the Post Office in Par, the nearest alternative branch.

Stephen Gilbert, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate, said:

"Despite the bad weather it was great that so many people showed up to give their support for Tywardreath Post Office. It took us a good 25 minutes to walk down the hill to Par and more coming back. That's what the post office are suggesting people in Tywardreath will have to do every time they want to post a letter, buy a stamp or get some cash out. It's unacceptable. There were many who waved us off who simply were too old or vulnerable to walk with us for them the post office in Tywardreath is a lifeline."
